Wedgwood Emergency HUB Drill

June 9th, 2024

Location: 7730 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115

The Wedgwood Hub is located at the Hunter Tree Farm lot on 35th Ave NE. Hubs assume that their approximate service area includes anyone within a 15-20 minute walk of the Hub.

Come join us practice activating the Hub in full force on Sunday, June 9 from 1-3pm! Volunteers will be needed to fill jobs within the Hub and community members are welcome to stop by and walk through as a neighbor participant. Information about how to volunteer to come.

Our practice scenario…  The entire city was shaken by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake along the Seattle Fault Line. It’s day #2 of the disaster; communications are down and utilities (water, sewer, natural gas) are non-functional. The Fire Department was able to extinguish most of the fires and City officials are hard at work assessing the damage, deploying their limited assets, and requesting assistance from County, State, and Federal officials.  The first game of the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to begin in 3 days so the city is packed with fans from all over the world.  Because of bridge and road failures, the city has broken into many “islands”.  Cut off from essential services, Hub volunteers (neighbors just like you) are helping their neighbors find and share resources.

How you can help on June 9:

Volunteer for one of the rolls needed to activate the Hub (greeter, message taker, radio assistant, etc.). If you have attended a Hub training, we need you. But no experience needed; all willingness to pitch in is appreciated!

Stop by any time between 1-3pm to learn how the Hub operates and be an “actor” by reading a short problem for us to solve and follow it through the Hub to see how we might help.
